The proposal started early in the day on Saturday, September 7th. I told Laura that I had hired her a driver for the day. When the doorbell rang at 10:30 am, Laura opened the door and there was her best friend Krystin. I had flown her up from LA for the day to drive Laura around and be my partner in crime! They were given cards with directions for different activities. First up, massages for both of them.
After they were finished relaxing, I picked up Laura’s mom (Lori) and met Laura and Krystin for lunch at The Wine Cellar in Los Gatos. It was a perfect day and we were able to sit out on the patio and enjoy delicious food and of course Mimosas! Lori and I left while Laura and Krystin opened the third card which directed them to meet up with Laura’s sister Lisa to get mani/pedi’s. Laura then opened the last card which sent her off to the hair salon for styling and makeup.
After the salon it was time for Laura to head back to her house and get dressed. Just as she finished getting ready, I showed up at the house and Krystin drove us to Alexander’s Steakhouse. I had to reassure Laura that the proposal wouldn’t happen at dinner so that she could relax and enjoy the food. She was so excited! We both had HUGE double-cut ribeye’s and enjoyed an amazing bottle of ’08 Alban Reva. As we finished dinner, Krystin arrived to drive us back to Laura’s house.
We arrived at Laura’s house and Krystin dropped us off. As Laura and I walked into the backyard, I pressed play on the the stereo and “Love of my Life” by Carlos Santana and Dave Matthews came on. We walked into the backyard and Laura was blown away. While we were at dinner, Laura’s family had set up the entire backyard with candles, roses, champagne, chocolates and decorations. I brought Laura over in front of the (hidden) video camera, said a few words and then got down on one knee with the ring. When I asked her to marry me, she immediately said “yes!!!” She was so overjoyed it was several moments until I could actually put the ring on! We called my mom and told her the news and then Laura’s family and Krystin came back to join in the celebration.
Everything couldn’t have gone better!
